Ultimate Fitness Experience (UXF) @ NYSC

As you know, or maybe you don’t, but I’ve been taking these UXF classes for the past 2 weeks and they have been kicking my butt! Kristin and I missed the very first class, which is the baseline class, but we were able to make it up tonight. Technically it should be done in the very beginning, but this was the only chance we had to make it up as soon as possible.

How does it work? The baseline is just that, a baseline that is used at the very beginning to measure where you are at. This same exercise will then be repeated during the very last class to measure how much progress you have made. This ended up being my 3rd class, since I had to miss last night’s due to a work party.

We did these 5 exercises for a minute each, with 15 seconds of rest in between each one. After the set, we rested for 30 seconds and then started again. I had a really strong class tonight and it felt great! It was just Kristin and I tonight, but usually it’s us and about 3-4 other guys and I am definitely the weakest in the class. I don’t mind being the one who needs the most work, but for some reason the class on Tuesday was a little disheartening. I was ready to kick ass tonight and I’m glad to say that I pulled through and I felt great after class was over. I can barely use my arms, but that’s a whole ‘nother story.

I used to think I was pretty good at push ups, but they have become the bane of my existence within this class. I die just doing them during the warm up.

Each class starts with a warm up and then goes into a circuit style workout that usually encompasses kettle bells, jump ropes, your own body weight, TRX straps, and sometimes this giant tire! I actually missed the tire in last nights class :( and I’m kind of sad about it. I hope it gets used again, I can’t even imagine what you would do with it!

Anyway, this class is awesome and I HIGHLY recommend it. I definitely see myself going back in the future once this class is through. I don’t plan on doing it during marathon training, but I would love to pick it up again once the winter hits. It’s a whole body workout, but I feel it most in my arms and my core and I know I will be stronger once the session is done. Consider this a partial review since I am only halfway through the session. I’m definitely looking forward to the rest of the classes.

After my first class (technically the 2nd class of the series) I was sore for 4 days…like really sore. I had a hard time getting out of bed because my abs hurt so much. I literally had to roll out of my bed just to get up, it was crazy.

Anyway, so far so good. I’m off to eat some dinner and relax. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

What are your plans this weekend? I’m hoping to get an 8 mile run in, try to hold me to it, okay?

Awesome! It sounds a little bit like Crossfit, at least based on that picture up there with the list of stuff. Now you know how I felt my first two weeks :)

  2. Testimony: THESE WORKOUTS ROCK! I can’t wait to go back. Having a trainer push you..and tell you that you’re “special” …haha…makes all the difference. I wish I had done this before the HARDCORE workout last night. I was spent! Great job tonight. You were taking NO prisoners!!! Maybe we can fro yo this weekend ;-)

What a great way to start the weekend! I’ve gotta try this at some point. Good luck on those 8 miles!
