Race Bucket List

I have a serious addiction. And thankfully, I have no money right now to spend because otherwise I would be signed up for races all over the country. There are so many races I want to run and I have no patience, I want to run them all NOW!
I know that’s unrealistic, but I have a hard time figuring out which ones I want to do this year and which ones can wait. 75% of the best races are in the Fall and unfortunately, I don’t think it’s realistic for me to run more than 1 marathon in the Fall (as of right now).
Since 50% of my day is spent thinking about races, I thought it was time to make a Race Bucket List.
If money wasn’t a factor, I would be signed up for 3 or 4 of these already.
My hope was to run this in 2013. I have friends who were supposed to move out there, but not sure if they are anymore. Obviously the price of traveling is a factor, so when the time comes, we will see what the money situation is like.
I am considering signing up for the half marathon this year. I have a friend who is just getting into running and I think we are considering this for her first half marathon…am I right, Em? She used to live in Philly and we have been trying to plan a trip there together, so this is the perfect opportunity. It’s 2 weeks after the NYC Marathon, so I’m sure I will be slogging along the course.
I am 2 seconds away from signing up for this! I want to run this marathon SO BADLY! It’s a flat, beautiful course that starts and ends right near the Dogfish Head brewery/brewpub! What could be better than that? The thing is, I want to run the full and it’s only 5 weeks after NYC. So, unless I become magical, I’m not sure running another marathon so soon after would be the brightest idea. I could always drop down to the half? It doesn’t sell out quickly, so I’m going to force myself to make the decision until after NYC. I should probably just wait until next year.
The lottery opens up for this today! I was considering signing up just for the hell of it, but what happens if I actually get in? It’s on my birthday, so it would be a fun birthday trip, but again, too soon for another marathon. Maybe I will wait until I run a qualifying time. It would be more gratifying that way anyway.
I had the chance to meet Mason last night, the big guy behind Nuun! He was telling me this is a great course, especially if you are trying to set a PR and of course, I am still trying to break that old PR that I set back in 2010. This race is also on my birthday and I know a few people who have been dying to go to Austin, so again it would be a fun birthday trip.
I have been eye-balling this race for a while now. I know several people in the LA area, so I know I could easily have a place to stay (for free!). Not sure if I’m ready to commit to it in 2013 or not.
I was set on applying for the lottery for this race this year, but as I read more about the rules and conditions of traveling up to the summit, I got very discouraged and turned off by it. Some of the rules make sense, but some of them flat out annoyed me. You apparently have to be traveling in a car with at least one other runner up to the top, but there also has to be a driver and everyone has to pay and you can ONLY get in by lottery. I don’t know, I’d rather not get into it now, and I know there are reasons for their rules, but it made me realize this isn’t the year for me to try and apply. I still obviously hope to run this one day!
My sister applied for the lottery to this race and got in! It’s a great excuse to go on a short vacation to Cape Cod and that’s exactly what her and her husband plan to do. I am jealous of her and know she will have a great time!
I ran my first (and only) marathon here, so I hope to return some day soon and do the half. It’s usually the same day as the NYC Marathon, so I’m sure I will do it the year I don’t run NYC.
I’ve been looking for a Spring marathon for next year and I feel pretty positive, I want this to be it. After reading about it here and here, I am convinced this will be my spring marathon for next year. It sounds like a great course and I love the idea of another New England race!
These are the races I could think of off the top of my head, I’m sure this list will keep on growing!
What races are on your bucket list?

That is a long list!! HA! Wineglass has been on mine for a while. Mostly because of the wine glass. Also Meggie keeps raving about the Boilermaker!
I would like to run the Paris Marathon one day!
i think running a race in europe would be awesome. my friend ran in berlin then traveled around europe after for vacation.
Where’s the ‘Gansett Marathon??? I thought you wanted to qualify for that one…
Yep, I am missing the Gansett Marathon! Also, Boston, as well. Those 2 are definitely on my list, but I have to get fast first!
I really really really think you should run Rehoboth. I’m working on an article for Greatist about how long it takes to recover from a marathon, and the answer will shock you – it’s a LOT less than 5 weeks! (I’ll save the spoiler for the actual article publication.) That would be so fun to run it together!
I’d also consider 3M Half, since I have friends in Austin and always love an excuse to visit
HOORAY for Vermont City! I do that every year so will definitely be there and can show you the best brewpubs in town
I’ve also done NJ Marathon the last three years and really enjoyed that – it’s nice and easy to get to from NYC.
Never done Wineglass but considering it this year!
Boilermaker sells out VERY quickly. I did it once and had a lot of fun, but not sure I’d travel up there / give up a weekend for it again.
My bucket list has Marathon du Medoc on it – you run through French wine country and try wines at vineyards all along the way!
Skip NJ. I did it. Boring course. Marine Corp was awesome. 26.2 miles of sightseeing.
The Inferno Half-Marathon (http://www.inferno.ch/index.php?page=285) and actually be in the kind of shape to survive it
