I’ve been wanting to write a post about my favorite running gear for a while now and I think I had a draft started at the beginnnig of the summer, but then I got injured, soo it seemed irrelevant to post.
Anyway, here is a list of not only my favorite running gear, but the all around things that are making running extra special for me right now.
I got into podcasts because of my friend, Em. She’s been listening to them on her long runs. She’s training for her first marathon by the way and is kicking ass! Haha, anyway, I’m loving Rich Roll’s podcast, No Meat Athlete, and Radio Lab. Most of them are pretty long, which would make them great for super long runs.
They’ve also been providing me with a LOT of motivation. They push me to be in the training mindset and to be more focused on my goals on a daily basis.
2. Garmin/Runtastic App
I have the Garmin 305 and it’s still trucking along. I absolutely love it though and I won’t get another one until it’s totally dead, I still kind of want the new Garmin 220. Derek and I have been sharing it, so sometimes I use my Runtastic Pro App, which is pretty great too because it allows me to run by feel since I’m not staring at my phone the whole run.
3. Long Rogas
I seriously cannot express enough love for these shorts. I literally don’t ever want to wear anything else again. They have 2 large pockets, plus a key pocket on the inside. I have 4 pairs of them and wish I had more. Perfect length, perfect waistband, and an ample amount of storage.
I’m really loving my Hokas. My feet never hurt, they are super cushioned, lightweight, and they’re basically the perfect shoe for me right now. I just wish they weren’t so dang expensive! I’ll just have to ask for another pair for Christmas.
And I know that most people wear these for Ultras, but I highly recommend them everyday running as well. Although, I can’t wait to wear them for longer distances, like 18+ miles, but that won’t happen for at least a year. I feel confident I’ll be sticking to these shoes for a while.
Since returning from injury, I can probably count on 1 hand the amount of times I’ve run solo. This has been a great thing! Up until this week, I was kind of lacking motivation to follow my training plan and always having a running buddy is so nice. It seems I’m turning everyone around me into a runner If I’m not running with my husband, or my friend/neighbor, Em, then I’m heading into the city to run with Beth, Kim, and Allison for my long run.
Nuun is a lifesaver when it comes to daily hydration. Sometimes I have an issue drinking enough water just because it can taste so boring. I keep Nuun with me at work so it helps me drink enough during the day. My favorite flavors are Watermelon, Lemonade, and Fruit Punch.
7. Honey Stingers
These are a new type of fuel for me. I’ve only tested them out twice, but I am already sold. The texture is perfect, they are a lot easier to chew than shot bloks and they taste great. I just wish the packaging was more minimal. It’s too big and bulky to shove into a pocket. I usually end up wrapping the chews in some plastic wrap and carrying them that way. I’m going to test out the gels as well, but so far so good!
My husband bought me this iPod for Christmas last year and it was a pleasant surprise! I was sick of carrying my bulky phone around for music and this is tiny, so it fits perfectly in my long roga pocket. He got it engraved on the back too! It says:
Focus, Courage, Endurance, Love
I am a Runner.
It not only holds all of my music, but I can listen to podcasts on it as well.
What are some of the things that make running a whole lot easier/better for you?
