It’s Official…
I’m dropping out of the Half Marathon I was supposed to run this Sunday. I hurt my foot a few weeks ago during a 12 mile training run and ever since then it hasn’t been the same. It’s improved a lot, but I went on my first run (only 2.65 mi.) today since then and although it didn’t kill me to run on it, it was definitely sore within the first mile and is still sore now. When injured I think about if I want to run now or if I want to continue running forever.
This is the first race I’ve ever had to drop out of and I must say it’s pretty heartbreaking. I know that probably sounds dumb and dramatic, but I was REALLY looking forward to it. I guess it’s for the better to not run for more reasons than just my foot. It would’ve been a pain in the ass to get there and honestly I don’t even know how I would manage getting there without spending a ton of money, so in the long run it’s better for my health and my finances to stay home.
So, before I could even say hello to you, goodbye 13.1 Boston, maybe I will see you next year.

Aw Steph. I am sad for you. I know it is for the best but that doesn’t make you feel any better, I’m sure. There will be many more races – don’t stop believin’!
aw, so sad! you can come to the park with penny and i this weekend, for a cheer up session!
i think this is the best idea. its ONE RACE and you have the rest of your life to run another one. and news flash but you ran 12miles when you hurt your ankle and that’s only 1.1 difference than the actual race so i think this is a true achievement. especially when my max running distance is 4miles. and i only did that once
I am sorry you had to drop out of your race!! It was probably the smartest thing you could do.
I ran a marathon in May after developing plantar fasciitis 3 weeks before the race. I ended up with a stress fracture of the 5th metatarsal in that same foot, most likely due to my altering my stride. I am now in a boot and not able to run for 6, possibly 8 weeks. I can kiss my fall marathon goodbye. I asked my sports dr about the half in Oct and he said it depends on how my recovery goes. I am now only allowed to swim (I suck and I hate it) and to bike with no resistance.
So, I hope that can be some reassurance that you did the right thing. I hope that your foot is better soon. You were so right to look at the big picture and not just that one race. Treat yourself to a treat instead.
