This past week’s goal was to stick to the plan. I’ve been messing around with the days I run and I honestly don’t prefer to do that, unless it’s necessary. I love my schedule of running Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

I took this past Sunday off due to the weird butt/back pain, but also because I needed to cut back on some miles. It would’ve been too big of a jump to go from 22 to high 30s, so Sunday seemed like the right day to take a rest day instead.

Saturday: 14 miles (9:30 avg. pace) – I did this on the treadmill, for some reason it was more motivating to do it inside instead of outside in the blistery weather. Plus, I started late and the thought of traveling to Central Park was unappealing and time consuming. I tried to make the treadmill run somewhat hilly to make up for it.

Sunday: Rest

Monday: Rest

Tuesday: 2x 1600, 800, 400 (7:49, 3:39, 1:47) (7:51, 3:42, 1:47) 7 miles total.

This was the hardest speedwork I have EVER done. No lie. I thought I was going to puke and die. People at the gym were probably concerned. I I made it through the second mile repeat and was almost done, I only had 1 more 800, and 400 to go, but I absolutely needed a break, if only for a minute. I went to the locker room to regroup and wipe some sweat off my face. Then, I hopped right back on and pushed through. But, yeah holy shit, hardest freaking speedwork ever! I think the 800s were the worst. I am so proud of myself for nailing this workout. Now, next week’s 3 mile-repeats look like a piece of cake! Please don’t make me do this again…

Wednesday: Easy 4 miles (9:27 avg. pace)

Thursday: 6 mile Tempo – My first tempo run of the season! Ahhh, I feel like these used to be somewhat easy, but not this time around. With a whole minute knocked off my tempo pace this training round, they are looking a little more scary. This run was probably a little harder than it should’ve been, and I blame Tuesday’s run. Anyway, 1 mile w/u and c/d and 4 miles done at a gruesome 8:20 pace.

Friday: Core Strengthening Workshop at Yoga Agora in Astoria

Total: 31 miles, 1 cross training session

No strength training sessions this week. Somewhat intentional, I feel like I needed a break physically, but I was sure to get in at least 1 good cross training session at the yoga workshop.

What is the craziest speed workout you’ve ever done? Did you feel amazing afterwards?

I had so much on my mind today that it put me in a funny mood. Not really a bad mood, but just funny, I can’t really explain it, but it was a weird day. I have a lot of things to do that are keeping me very busy, I like it, but sometimes it can get overwhelming.

Sigh.

That’s why today was a perfect day to get back into yoga. I obtained a free yoga mat from work a few weeks ago and I was happy to finally use it today. The class was amazing! It was challenging and sweaty and it was everything I had hoped would be in a yoga class. It felt like a workout, but I also felt very relaxed by the end of the class. There was some hardcore ab work that totally kicked my butt, but it was fantastic and I am considering going back again tomorrow after work.

I came home to a delicious smelling apartment where Derek was making us dinner, it was perfect timing because I was starving. He made pork chops with rice pilaf and a side salad. I technically made up the salad, but he still gets props for the whole dinner!

After dinner I made the milkshake I have also been waiting for! I miss my dad’s milkshakes that he used to make me that simply consisted of milk and chocolate or coffee syrup all blended up in a milkshake blender. Mmm those were so good and I wish I could have one right now.

Instead, my milkshake that I concocted tonight was made up of:

  • 1 cup Milk
  • 2 tbsp of Ovaltine
  • 1 Banana
  • 1 sm. scoop of Key Lime Pie Ice Cream

I was a little disappointed with the milkshake, it was not thick enough which could be due to the fact that I did not add any ice and I should have used a hand mixer instead of a typical blender. Oh well, better luck next time.

Had a pretty boring, but productive day at work today. It felt like a really long day so I was happy to finally leave and head to my second yoga class ever. The class tonight was even better! There was a lot of good stretching going on and I felt more comfortable. I had trouble with the pigeon pose, I think that’s what it’s called. I just get confused with all the leg twisting, but the teacher came over and helped me out and once I got it, it felt soooo good. That was the best part of the class definitely. There is also a section where she works our abs and core like crazy and I love it! I am definitely going to continue going. It will probably only be once a week, but maybe after my HM I will start going more often.

I started reading Shutter Island last Thursday and I just finished it tonight on the subway ride home. One of the best books I have ever read! It was so engaging and I just couldn’t put it down. I absolutely love the way it was written, I can not wait to read more of Dennis Lehane’s books. I recommend everyone read this book, it has entered into my top five favorite books of all time. What are my top 5 books? I’m not actually sure, but it is now something to think about. Now, I have to go see the movie this weekend!

Last week I had finished reading The Lovely Bones and I immediately watched the movie right after I was done. The book was great! It was really depressing though, but definitely a powerful story. My only negative criticisms would be that the writing was a little weird at times and it got a little dull toward the middle of the book. Dull sounds so harsh and I don’t think that’s the right word, but what I really want to say is that a few of the middle scenes just weren’t as engaging as the rest. A great read though and I highly recommend it. The movie was slightly disappointing and I don’t think the characters were written strongly enough. It was a good film overall though, but the first half hour was the best.

I am on an awesome reading streak! I must keep it up. Next up…The Time Traveler’s Wife. Wow, all these books I’m reading are now movies, hmm.

My fundraising deadline is looming very very closely and it’s really getting down to the wire. I’ve just about accepted that I have to hundreds of dollars in order to meet my goal, but if anyone is willing to donate I would REALLY REALLY appreciate it! It’s going to a great cause and any amount is helpful!

So, once again, DON’T FORGET TO DONATE TO LEUKEMIA AND LYMPHOMA!!!
