Back to Marathon Training!
So, I’ve been sick. That’s why it’s been so long since my last post. I basically missed my first 2 weeks of marathon training, so good thing I am working off of an 18 week schedule. I want to keep track of my training weekly here on the blog, I always enjoy reading others’ recaps.
Base building week: 25 miles
Week 1: 19 miles (Sick)
Week 2: 0 miles (Sick)
The weeks on my training schedule start on Saturday and go through Friday, so therefore I am technically starting my week with my Long Run.
Saturday: I started my 3rd week still sick, but managed a lousy 3.5 mile run with Kristin. I felt okay enough to run, but the cold weather absolutely destroyed my lungs and I was left with a coughing fit for the next 30 minutes following the run. Not good. No long run for me to start off my week.
Sunday: Rest
Monday: Rejoin the gym! A successful, and easy 4 miles (9:30 pace) in the warm hot gym on the treadmill. Plus some light lifting.
Tuesday: 2 x 1600 (7:47, 7:46) with w/u & c/d, 5 miles total – This was HARD. I don’t ever run that fast, but I hit my paces and pushed through. First workout where I really wanted to give up! I felt amazing after and I’m surprisingly looking forward to my next set of mile repeats.
Wednesday: Easy 4 miles (9:10 pace)
Thursday: 60 min Cardio/Strength class at the gym
Friday: 6 mile hill workout (9:30 pace) This is the first real hill workout that I’ve ever done and it was INSANE. It started out somewhat easy, but I was really pushing it by the end. Again, it was hard not to quit. This is what I did:
I did the whole workout at a 9:30 pace, until the end where it says MP, then I ran those at around an 8:57 pace. TOUGH. My coach gave me this to do, but if you are up for an intense hill workout, I definitely recommend it. Do it at your own pace.
Total: 22.55 miles + 2 Strength Training sessions
So, so happy to be back feeling like myself again, you really have no idea. I was so frustrated, it sucked being out of commission AGAIN for 2 weeks, I just wanted my life back. I know that sounds dramatic, but I was just sick at the end of December with something similar and also for 2 weeks. Wtf is wrong with my immune system? It’s time to become a germaphobe.
Everything was done on the treadmill! I’m a wimp and I really wanted to be cautious of irritating my lungs and throat. I’m still not 100% yet, but I’m getting there. I will be back running outside again next week.
Have a good weekend and stay safe in the snowstorm!

So glad you are feeling better! Glad the blogging is back in action, too
And treadmill running = not wimpy. It can be dangerous out there! AnAnd now with nemo…
So glad you’re feeling better!
That hill workout looks awesome! And by awesome i mean crazy hard. But I’ve been looking for a good hill workout, so I’m going to have to give this one a try!
Wow. That looks like a good and intense workout! Staying safe indoors sounds good. After my past few longer runs, I have been noticing I am wheezing a lot due to the cold. I am NOT running outside in this storm this weekend but will play it safe until I get to warm weather next week in TX for my 26.2!
Hope we have many more training runs ahead of us!!!
You’re BACK! Yay!! Sorry to hear about you getting sick again, but at least you are being smart about it and recovering properly so that you can come back strong.
Glad you are feeling better! Running on the treadmill doesn’t make you a wimp. Treadmill running sucks, so that just makes you tougher!
Nice work on your training and glad you’re feeling better.
